Joy of Learning
We want your child's first exposure to school to be a positive experience that sets the tone for a lifetime of learning. The Young 3's Program emphasizes this joy of learning. In addition, age appropriate social skills are underscored including taking turns and sharing, learning about friendship and using kind words.
During this year colors, shapes, and letter and number recognition is introduced. Fine motor skills are honed with art projects and crafts that are based on holidays and seasons. Large motor skills are developed through outside playground play and indoor activities with the parachute and tunnels and Listen and Move activities. Parents are encouraged to bring the fun from school home. Every month the children learn a new set of songs and parents receive the words so they can sing along.

| Rainbow Rice
A perennial favorite of all the three year olds is playing with Rainbow Rice! A wonderful alternative to a sand/water table during these winter months! If you do not have a sand/water table for indoors simply use a sweater box, deep tray, or large brownie pan to hold the rice.
Supplies needed:
Inexpensive long grain rice A deep container to hold rice (sand/water table, sweater box, deep tray, large brownie pan etc) Zippered sandwich bags Various colors of liquid food coloring A few squirts alcohol based hand sanitizer
Instructions:
Put rice in sandwich bags along with a few drops of one food coloring and a few drops hand sanitizer. Shake bag until color is distributed. Open bag and let dry. Repeat process using different colors in each bag.
Once rice has dried let the fun begin! Have your child pour and mix the different colors into the container. Use different sized funnels to show fast and slow. Add construction trucks, spoons, measuring cups and sand box toys. Bury large shells and toys for a treasure hunt. Have fun!
